Excellent para swimmer: Gala event in Bonn celebrates outstanding services
Elena Semechin and Taliso Engel were awarded the gala of the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS) in the Telekom Forum in Bonn as a para athlete of 2024. Both swimmers won gold medals at the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024 and prevailed in their respective categories. This honor is a significant recognition of their outstanding achievements.
The gala, which took place as part of the DBS, not only emphasized the individual successes of Semechin and Engel, but also praised the team of wheelchair basketball players, who won a bronze medal in the past games and was thus back on the podium after 32 years. In addition, Michael Engel, the success coach of the wheelchair basketball team, received the award for the trainer of the year. This underlines the importance of the coaching team and their contribution to the successes in disabled sports.
In the personal statements after the award, Semechin confirmed that recognition after turbulent years is a great appreciation for them. This is already the second honor for the 31-year-old, who previously triumphed in Paris with a world record period and has currently announced pregnancy. Angel, who also set his own world record in the semi -finals, also commented over the award and reflected on the importance of this success after challenging years.
The event offered a valuable framework to celebrate the success and challenges of the athletes in disabled sports. The awards are not only a sign of individual services, but also for the constantly growing recognition and support of the disability sports in Germany. The success of the athletes and the valuable contribution of their trainer are aspects that offer a positive perspective for the future of sport in general and in particular.
In the context of the development of Para Sports, it can be seen that such awards and honors for the athletes are becoming increasingly important in order to make their public services more visible and to raise awareness of the ability and ambition of athletes with disabilities.
