Almost two thirds prefer to pay cashless - economy
Current surveys show that more and more people are paying cashless in Germany. According to a YouGov survey on behalf of Postbank, almost two thirds of the respondents stated that they preferred to pay with a checking card, credit card or mobile via smartphones while shopping. This preference for cashless payment methods is reflected in the daily shopping habits of consumers.

The trend towards contactless paying is particularly striking, which gained importance during the Covid 19 pandemic. Around 45 percent of the respondents prefer to handle their payments without contact by keeping their payment card or smartphone at the terminal at the cash register. Thomas Brosch, head of digital sales at Postbank, emphasizes that more and more consumers who pay contactless are using little or no cash. This could be an indication that the means of payment withdraws cash from everyday life of many people.
