Moving life story: Käthe Gottschall celebrates 100th birthday

The 100-year-old Sankt Augustinian Käthe Gottschal shows exceptionally active when visiting her apartment in the CBT residential building St. Monika. In a cozy atmosphere, she chats over the events of the past century over coffee and cake. Born in Leipzig, she reports of the challenges and cuts that the war brought with it in her youth.

Despite the difficult times after the war, Käthe Gottschal found joy in her studies of architecture and marriage to her husband Gerhard Gottschall. As a freelance painter, her husband was severely impaired by war injuries, and she had to take on a job as a technical employee at a university in Erfurt in order to make ends meet.

In addition to the upbringing of her children Monika and Peter, Käthe Gottschal found time for vacations in the Thuringian Forest and later on the Müritz and the Brandenburg lakes. She further developed her passion for photography and was particularly devoted to nature and city photography and the design of cat portraits. With great skill she worked on her pictures on the computer, which she received from her son -in -law at the age of 72

Despite her advanced age, Käthe Gottschal danced regularly up to her 96 years of life. After she was brought to Sankt Augustin by Dieter and Waltraud Marzik to the Rhineland, they take care of them lovingly and support them in their everyday life. Dieter Marzik describes his mother -in -law as courteous, nice and always friendly - a great woman who appreciates life in all his facets.
