Thanks to the special wheel: Mixing Bonner logistics industry-on the go
The logistics industry is a central part of the economy, especially in densely populated regions such as North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). The state is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, shaped by an extensive network of highways, rails and waterways. Nevertheless, the cities are fighting with the disadvantages of a high traffic, especially in the area of delivery traffic. 185,000 vehicles every day on the A3 motorway between Cologne-Ost and Triangle Heumar are an impressive example of the problems that this situation brings: traffic jams, noise and fine dust pollution burden the quality of life of the residents.
Bonn: Climate -friendly packages deliver
In this challenging environment, the company Vemo Logistik from Bonn has developed an innovative solution. Founded by Jonathan Kümmerle and Paul Schwarzelühr in 2020, Vemo aims to make delivery traffic more sustainable. Her philosophy is based on the fact that logistics can not only be efficient, but also environmentally friendly. In the meantime, the company has built up a customer base that ranges from organic shops to large delivery services such as General Logistics Systems (GLS). Around 1,800 packages are delivered every day, a success that was recognized by winning the Bonn climate price this year.
A central element of the innovative strength of Vemo is located in its entire fleet of electric bicycles, some of which were developed themselves. These special bicycles are not only environmentally friendly, they are also designed in such a way that they can transport larger packages. Kümmerle emphasizes that many people think of the idea of cycling logistics of small bags, but Vemo is able to offer more comprehensive solutions. This enables the company to deliver a wide range of goods efficiently and sustainably.
The initiative of Vemo Logistik shows how innovative approaches in the field of logistics can not only bring ecological advantages, but are also economically profitable. In view of the increasing importance of sustainable practices in the economy, the Bonn model could take on a pioneering role in the industry and inspire other companies to take similar steps.
