Boxwood borer: Environmental agency reaches - cemetery closed for a short time!

The Office for the Environment and City Green of the Federal City of Bonn has taken measures against the boxwood borer. These pests represent a serious threat to book trees, which is why the city is proactively to protect infected plants and to prevent the spread.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29 and 30, 2025, work is being done on the Lenné-Parterre on the banks of the Rhine to treat and maintain affected plants. These targeted measures are part of a comprehensive plan to combat the boxwood borer in public green areas.

In addition, work will be made in the old cemetery on Friday, May 2. On this day, the cemetery remains closed for a few hours to ensure the security of the public during the necessary measures. The city asks the citizens for understanding for the temporary restrictions.

The fight against the boxwood borer often requires a combined strategy that includes both chemical and biological control measures. These strategies aim to reduce the population of the pests and at the same time maintain the health of the book trees.
