Dahlem under water: fire brigade operations after heavy rain event

After a heavy rain event in the southern district of the Euskirchen district, the fire brigades were in constant use. There were a total of 44 missions in which 198 firefighters were deployed. One focus was in Bad Münstereifel, where the fire brigades had to cope with three points of operation. The net in Dahlem, which was more or less under water, was particularly affected, as was seen in pictures. The water around the discounter reached a height of about 50 centimeters and pressed the door.

In order to meet the emergency calls, the district of Euskirchen increased the line -up at the rescue control center. In addition, the district provided managers for local needs. The fire brigade focused on pumping out flooded basements. A total of 28 points of application were reported in Dahlem, of which eight have already been processed.

In the middle of the heavy rain, 18 cows in Blankenheim, near the Ripsdorfer Mühle, also had to be brought to safety. Fortunately, there were no personal injury from the storm, but a fireman was slightly injured and treated on site. The technical relief organization (THW) was asked to fill and provide sandbags while the German Red Cross took over the supply of the emergency services.

The German Weather Service (DWD) predicted temporary weather calming after the district of Euskirchen was under the highest warning level until 4.30 p.m. Nevertheless, there was the possibility for further thunderstorms and precipitation until Friday afternoon, with local heavy heavy rain cases of 25 to 40 liters per square meter in one hour.
