In a significant change for the cityscape of Rheinbach, the traditional Kayser bookstore will close its doors on May 1, 2023 and will operate under the name Thalia in the future. Owner Christoph Ahrweiler, who has headed the business since 2015, has decided to hand over his business in Rheinbach and Wesseling to the Thalia chain.

The history of the Kayser bookstore began in 1970 when Janbernd Kayser opened the business on the main street. Ahrweiler has contributed significantly to the cultural life of the city in recent years. In his last newsletter, he thanked the numerous customers and partners he has met over the years. This personal connection to his clientele was always important to him, and he regrets that the direct contact has moved into the background through the challenges of recent years.

The decision to hand over was not easy for Ahrweiler. Health reasons have prompted him to reorganize his activities. Already in January he accepted a new job in southern Germany and continued to operate accounting for the two shops. With the handover to Thalia, he completes a chapter of his life and starts in a new phase of life.

The month of April heralded an emotional turn for Ahrweiler. The last Sunday, which was celebrated with the Spring Festival, was also his last "assignment" in the bookstore. On this occasion he was able to say goodbye to many loyal customers and maintain the conversations with them, which was particularly important to him.

With the step to take over by Thalia, there will continue to be bookstores in Rheinbach and Wesseling. The existing team of Kayser will continue to work under the new name, which should offer readers in the region a familiar ambience and the usual customer service. Ahrweiler is supported during this transition phase to ensure the seamless process for customers.

The changeover will also further develop the bookstores in terms of range and digital offers. Previous cooperation with cultural and educational institutions in the region are to be maintained and expanded.
