Germany enforces Swiss criminal tickets: New regulation since Wednesday
A new contract between Switzerland and Germany has led to the fact that fines from Switzerland can now be enforced in Germany. So far, criminal tickets from Switzerland had not been persecuted in Germany. The mutual enforcement of nodules was regulated by a contract decided last autumn in the Bundestag. Although similar regulations were already included in an old police contract from 2009, they were never put into force.
According to the Ministry of Justice in Germany, around 3000 incoming and 1,500 -outgoing request is expected for the enforcement of fines. From 2025, these figures are to increase on 5000 incoming and 6000 outgoing request. The Federal Office for Justice in Bonn is responsible for carrying out enforcements. The prerequisite for an enforcement aid request is that the fine imposed is at least 70 euros or 80 Swiss francs.
In Switzerland, the fines are often above this threshold, for example, a speed crossing of 20 kilometers per hour costs from 180 euros. In comparison, only around 60 euros would be due in Germany. A parking violation can be punished in Switzerland from 40 euros, while a violation of 10 euros is punished in Germany. These new regulations mean that both Swiss in Germany and Germans in Switzerland are asked to pay strictly when they violate traffic rules.
