Thursday evening: strong storm warning for Bonn and region

In Meckenheim, there were floods on the A565 and A61 due to strong thunderstorms, which were accompanied by hail and heavy rain on Thursday evening. The German Weather Service (DWD) had warned two to three in Bonn and the region, with possible effects such as lightning strikes, falling trees and floods of streets and cellars. The Eifel was particularly affected, where the police Trier reported over flushed streets to heavy rain and hail showers.

Around 6 p.m. the thunderstorm in Niederkassel-Ranzel was noticeable, where palm-sized hailstones fell down. The police warned about 7 p.m. on the A565 between Bonn and Meckenheim of floods. Drivers were called up in the area between Merl and Kreuz Meckenheim for caution. Also on the A61 between Mönchengladbach and Koblenz there was a risk of flooding between the Meckenheim cross and the triangle in both directions.

also in Rhineland-Palatinate, especially in the Eifel, there were reports of flooded streets to heavy rain and hailers. Some streets in Prüm were under water, which made it difficult to move. On Thursday afternoon, the DWD listed the focus of the storm in the Eifel, in the Bergisches Land and in Cologne and Düsseldorf, but without initially recording serious consequences for North Rhine-Westphalia. The Cologne fire brigade had no extraordinary operational volume at the time of the first thunderstorm.
