Königswinter: Accident on the A3
On Friday morning, a serious rear -end collision occurred on the A3 in the direction of Cologne, between Oberpleis and Königswinter. This incident is already marking the third serious accident at a construction site that was not active at that time. The circumstances of the construction site led to a traffic jam in which the tragic accident occurred.
As reported, a van with a tarpaulin was not broken in time at the end of the traffic jam and crashed into the vehicle of a 59-year-old BMW driver. The 58-year-old driver of the van suffered serious injuries in this impact and had to be freed from his vehicle by the fire brigade with a hydraulic rescue device. He was then taken to a hospital in Siegburg. The BMW driver complained of neck pain, but apparently did not suffer any serious injuries.
The responsible motorway police were alerted around 7:41 a.m. and blocked the affected road. This led to a long backlog that significantly impaired traffic routing. At around 9:20 a.m. a lane could be released to defuse the traffic situation.
A head of operations from the Königswinter fire brigade said that the journey to the scene of the accident was extremely complicated. The blocking of the construction site area as well as the constricted roadway significantly made the rescue measures significantly difficult. This illustrates the potential dangers that bring about traffic, especially if the corresponding safety precautions are not taken.
Such incidents are a tragic example of how important the observance of traffic signs and compliance with security standards on construction sites are. It is to be hoped that accidents of this kind can be avoided in the future.
