volunteer fair in Cologne institutions present their work and are looking for new helpers

On Saturday, May 3, various institutions gathered in the conference hall of the Cologne central mosque in order to present their activities under the motto "Together for a strong company - volunteering". This event was organized by Cologne youth who work under the roof of the Federation of Muslim Youth (BDMJ).

The fair is aimed at everyone who is interested in volunteer work. Ahmet Deveci, law student and part of the organizational team, emphasizes the positive role of volunteering for social coexistence. "Volunteering welds society together, which is something positive regardless of religion," he says. One goal of the event is to mobilize young people in particular and show them the large number of volunteer opportunities.

Information and network options for interested

from 12 noon to 5 p.m., visitors have the opportunity to find out about the different fields of activity. Among other things, the Cologne police headquarters, the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) Cologne, the volunteer fire brigade and various organizations from the field of disaster relief are present. According to Deveci, the encouragement from the institutions is great because many of them have an acute lack of volunteers.

The organizers hope that the fair will help to arouse interest in volunteering in the region. "Not everyone has to travel to the floods or into earthquake areas," explains Deveci, "there is also a lot to do in their own city." The commitment on site can often make a significant difference in other people's lives.

Under the patronage of Mayor Henriette Reker, the event will also be opened by an opening speech by the mayor Ralf Heinen. The aim is to make civil society commitment in the areas of volunteering, emergency aid and civil protection visible and to win other volunteers who are willing to get involved.
