Outrage in the city council: Exploded costs of the Neuenhof education campus

Siegburg: City must follow up at the Neuenhof school center

The large -scale project Education Campus Neuenhof in Siegburg is under a bad star after the city administration has failed to present effective solutions for cost control. In a special meeting of the city council, numerous members, in particular Mayor Stefan Rosemann (SPD), were dismayed by the current situation. CDU parliamentary group leader Lars Notelmann accused the administration of deliberately misleading politics by presenting misleading information. The city administration is now forcing this situation to re -plan and revise basic considerations.

According to the Nottelmann, the city council showed confidence in the plans presented, since they promised an economic accommodation of the school canteen and the theater treasure under one roof. However, the intended savings potential of 3.6 million euros turned out to be unrealistic. It is criticized that the administration did not have any discussions with the users concerned in advance, including the comprehensive school, secondary school and cultural institutions such as the theater treasure and the drama school.

The need to rethink

The SPD also calls for a rethink in the city administration and at the same time praised the efforts to reduce costs. SPD parliamentary group leader Michael Keller emphasized that such extensive projects had to be assumed from long-term perspectives. Instead of the original concept of a campus restaurant, the creation of a less extensive Mensa building that could be used in a variety of ways.

The CDU sees the responsibility primarily with the mayor, who, in the parliamentary belief, does not have the appropriate people in central positions. In the discussion about possible personnel consequences, Rosemann calmed that restructuring measures were initiated before the current allegations.

A call for help from the theater treasure finally revealed the problems of lacking communication on the part of the city administration. In a meeting last month, the construction and renovation committee recognized the far-reaching consequences for cultural education and for the approximately 1,200 students. The city council has now decided to take into account the concerns of all users and to present detailed suggestions for a solution that also has an eye on costs.
