Experience research in the "Day of Immunology" - University of Bonn
The "Day of Immunology" at the University of Bonn offers a variety of activities and insights into current immune research on the Bonn marketplace. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the science tent opens its doors, where experts from the University of Bonn, the University Hospital Bonn (UKB) and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) share their knowledge and offer practical demonstrations. This year the focus is on innovative applications of existing medication, the AI-based development of new proteins, as well as the female immune system and the effects of aging on our defense mechanisms.
Visitors, both adults and children, are invited to become active themselves and to take part in various experiments. For example, you can insulate DNA from bananas or assign microorganisms to different surfaces. The walk-in model of the uterus is also of particular importance, where scientists in the Femmunity study explain the female cycle in more detail and illustrate the relevance of gender-specific research in the field of immunology and metabolism. An also impressive walk -in brain model illustrated illustrated how different diseases arise and represent.
Another highlight of the day is the presentation of research projects in the new “House of Knowledge” at the University of Bonn, the P26. Here, short lectures take place from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by a question and answer session that offers the participants the opportunity to receive deeper information. Entry is free of charge, which makes this day particularly accessible to this day.
The lecture program includes various topics that offer a broad insight into immune research. For example, it is discussed how environmental factors can influence the immune system of future generations. In addition, the possibilities of AI in clinical research as well as the connections between the menstrual cycle, the immune system and the metabolism are discussed.
The Excellence Cluster of Immunosensation2, which is based at the University of Bonn, plays a central role in research into the innate immunity and goes beyond the classic approaches of immunology. Initiatives like this promote top research in Germany and strengthen the exchange between science and society. The cluster, which has been active since 2012, will continue until the end of 2025. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Gunther Hartmann and Prof. Dr. Waldemar Kolanus, it is an important element of the excellence strategy of the federal and state governments that are intended to support research at universities.
