Discover the hidden waterfalls in North Rhine -Westphalia: A natural experience away from the well -known paths!
In North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, there are impressive waterfalls to discover that attract nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts alike. One of these natural treasures is the Dreimühlen waterfall in Rhineland-Palatinate. With a height of over twelve meters and its constant growth due to continuous deposits, it is one of the region's most fascinating waterfalls. Its creation in 1912 goes back to the deposition of carbonate tributaries of the Ahbach. The waterfall of Dreimühlen is also known as the "growing waterfall" and is a real natural spectacle.
Another highlight is the victory waterfall in the Rhein-Sieg district, which is considered the largest waterfall in North Rhine-Westphalia. With a width of 85 meters and its four meter high levels, it is a popular destination in the Siegtal. Visitors can enjoy a fantastic view of the waterfall from the viewing pavilion and be impressed by its beauty. The victory waterfall was created by the railway construction from Cologne to Gießen in the 1850s and is also an impressive natural spectacle in the event of floods.
There are also waterfalls to discover in large cities such as Essen, such as in the Grugapark. The artificially created, but still impressive waterfall in the "Alpinum" area invites visitors to walk along the clear mountain stream and to experience the Alpine world in the middle of the city. The Grugapark in Essen is a worthwhile destination for nature lovers not only because of the waterfall, but also due to its diverse plant species.
In addition to the waterfalls already mentioned, there is also impressive natural monuments to be admired in the Sauerland and in the Eifel. The pleating lay in the Sauerland plunges majestically over the rocks and creates an impressive spray. The Klidinger waterfall in the Eifel with its approximately 28 meters is the highest waterfall in the region. Surrounded by the forest and rocks, the Klidingen waterfall looks almost magical and is a fascinating natural spectacle, especially in winter, when the water is freezing. Hiking trails lead the visitors along the river bank and make it possible to explore the untouched nature and to feel the refreshing breeze of the water.
