Femicide in Bonn: Lifelong imprisonment for men after a fatal attack

Zülpicher sentenced to life imprisonment for murder of wife

A Zülpicher man was sentenced by the Bonn district court for murdering his 30-year-old wife. The incident occurred on October 3, 2024, when the defendant suffocated his wife in an insidious act and then killed with a single knife stab. The presiding judge Klaus Reinhoff made it clear that it was a deliberate killing and spoke of "a murderer".

The crime occurred on the morning of death, shortly before her mother's wife had sent a message that she would come to breakfast. The defendant, who was physically far above her, put her in a strangling area until she lost consciousness and then cut her neck. After the crime, the man tried to commit suicide by causing injuries to himself, but survived.

The motives of the accused seem to be connected to jealousy. The chamber believes that after discovering his wife was interested in new acquaintances after discovering the crime. They had recently taken photos on a vacation together, and during the return, the 30-year-old had maintained contact with an old friend. A plan for separation seemed to be emerging, which fell into an emotional crisis.

In his last news, the accused expressed a desperate fear without having to live his wife and stated that he could not let her live on if he suffers. Despite these explanations, the chamber could not consider his emotional state to be justified, since he had previously shown no violent incidents in marriage and the killing came completely suddenly.

In addition to the lifelong prison sentence, the man was obliged to pay 15,000 euros in surviving money to the mother of the killed as well as funeral costs and pain and suffering. It remains to be seen whether the accused will appeal against the judgment.
