Cologne Airport Bonn: Traveler with 34 identity documents arrested
37-year-old wants to fly to Athens with 34 identity documents in travel baggage
A 37-year-old man from Cameroon caused a sensation at Cologne Bonn Airport when he was discovered in his luggage with an impressive number of 34 identity documents. It is noteworthy that only two of these documents were exhibited in his name. This unusual situation led the federal police to be consulted.
The man was on his way to a flight to Athens when he was initially checked by customs officials. During the review, it turned out that, in addition to a Greek refugee fun and a valid residence permit from Greece, he had 32 other documents, including passports, identity cards and driver's licenses from different European countries. Of these documents, 23 were already advertised for searching, which further shaken the trust in his information.
The traveler stated that they are for tourist purposes in Germany and claimed to transport the documents to Greece on behalf of their lawful owners. However, these explanations were considered not very credible by the officials. The authorities estimated most of the documents, apart from one, as real and secured them for further examination.
After completing the police measures, the cameroon was allowed to continue his trip. However, he now has to answer for suspicion of "creating false official IDs". These incidents throw a light on the challenges that the security authorities face at airports, especially in times of rising passenger numbers and growing international movements.
The problem of fake documents is not new and represents a serious security risk. Security forces worldwide are often faced with the challenge of recognizing and preventing identity fraud. Compliance with strict controls and cooperation between different authorities are crucial to minimize potential risks for public security.
