Bonn, May 06, 2025

Dear Sir or Madam,

Today Friedrich Merz was elected as the 10th Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. His choice required two electoral courses, which underlines the interaction of leadership skills and humility in this office. It is noteworthy that he was not able to preserve all votes of his majority in the secret election, a fact that illuminates the challenges in front of which new leadership figures are facing.

political priorities

In my view, there are now three central topics on the agenda:

  • New policy change: merz is required to initiate a credible change that shows significant deviations from the previous course of the traffic light government. Above all, economic, social and security -political aspects are crucial.
  • AfD as a challenge: the AfD classified as "secured right -wing extremist" represents a serious threat to the defensive democracy. It is important to develop appropriate reactions from the established parties in order to actively address this challenge.
  • Putin's war against Ukraine: The continuing conflict in Ukraine and the resistance to him also within Russia, illustrates by explanations of clergymen and laypersons of the Russian Orthodox Church, require a differentiated view and improved diplomatic approaches.

benefit concert for Ukraine

I cordially invite you to support a benefit concert for Ukraine, which takes place on the occasion of my 70th birthday on June 25th in the Bonn Pantheon. Together with other pianists, I will appear as part of the Beethoven Piano Club. Further information is available.

in memory of Ruth Hieronymi

Finally, I would like to commemorate the late Ruth Hieronymi. At the age of 77, a committed Christian democrat left Bonn's politics. Her loss is painful because it was a strong voice within the CDU. I learned a lot from her and deeply regretted that she is no longer with us.

best regards
you Stephan Eisel
