Nationwide requiem for Pope Francis in the Sankt Hedwigs-Cathedral in Berlin
The Roman Catholic Church in Germany organizes a nationwide requiem to commemorate Pope Francis, which will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11:15 a.m. in the Sankt Hedwigs Cathedral in Berlin. The German Bishops' Conference, the Apostolic Nuncio in Germany and the Archdiocese of Berlin work closely for this important occasion.
The requiem will not be open to the public, whereby the ceremony is transmitted live by the ZDF. The main celebrant and preacher becomes Bishop Dr. Being Georg Bätzing, chairman of the German Bishops' Conference. Archbishop Dr. Heiner Koch from Berlin and the Apostolic Nuncio Archishof Dr. Nikola Eterovic, together with other members of the German Bishops' Conference and representatives from the church and political life of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Special accreditation guidelines have to be observed for journalists and media representatives, since only a limited number of places in the cathedral are available. Media representatives must register by the accreditation portal of the German Bishops' Conference by the Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. . A re -accreditation is not possible due to safety precautions.In addition, the surroundings of the Sankt Hedwigs Cathedral are cordoned off during the event, which limits the movements of the media representatives. The most important information on the collection of accreditation cards and the processes are transmitted after successful accreditation.
