Hunger crisis in Sudan: Welthungerhilfe calls for immediate measures

Two years of war in Sudan: 26 million starving - Welthungerhilfe warns of one ...

At the international conference for the Sudan in London, Welthungerhilfe emphasized the urgent need to no longer ignore the painful fate of people in Sudan. The Situation in the country has worsened dramatically: two years after the outbreak of a devastating war, around 30.4 million people are dependent on humanitarian aid. Almost 26 million people suffer from acute hunger, which asks the global community to act quickly and determined.

The humanitarian crisis in Sudan is of an unimaginable extent. Agricultural activities have almost come to a standstill, and nutritional foods are unreachable for many. In the regions affected by conflicts such as Nord-Darfur, particularly vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women and the elderly, have to deal with hunger and malnutrition. Welthungerhilfe reports of a dramatic lack of food, which is still exacerbated by the continuing battles and the collapse of care routes.

in the Zamzam camp, where almost one million people live, many suffer from the interruption of food aid. The attacks on humanitarian helpers and the population show the acute danger from the continuing conflicts. In order to avert the disaster, Welthungerhilfe urgently calls for access to these affected areas, as well as to stop the violent suppression of auxiliary measures. The restoration of humanitarian corridors is of crucial importance to bring help to where it is most urgently needed.

In addition, the auxiliary measures are severely affected by bureaucratic hurdles and lack of financial resources. International aid faces major challenges through underfunding and adapted security regulations that make it difficult to work efficiently humanitarian organizations. The call to the International Geber Conference in London focuses on the need for concrete commitments to support and finance humanitarian activities in order not to let people in need down.

Welthungerhilfe, as one of the largest private aid organizations in Germany, has worked intensively for combating hunger and notes since it was founded. However, the ongoing war in Sudan is an enormous challenge that requires a common, decisive action of the international community.
