ICE Schnellerfahrtlahn Köln-Frankfurt: Full closure from July 16 to August 16-details and diversions unveiled
Deutsche Bahn has announced details on the planned full closure of the ICE speed route between Cologne and Frankfurt/Main from July 16 to August 16. During this period, rails between Siegburg/Bonn and Frankfurt Stadium are renewed. A railway spokesman said that it was regular repair work that is required at certain times. Due to the use of special machines, it is necessary to block the route and the exact construction schedule is currently being developed.
There will be diversions and adjustments in passenger transport, according to the spokesman. The timetable information has been taking this into account for some time. Travelers who book their tickets for the period mentioned already receive the information on the adapted timetable. The railway had already announced the period of the blocking at the beginning of the year. Due to the construction work, the travel times between Cologne and Frankfurt will significantly extend. For example, for a trip with an ICE sprinter between Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and Cologne Messe/Deutz on July 18, a travel time of 2 hours and 45 minutes is given, in regular operation it is usually 1 hour and 3 minutes.
Furthermore, another construction measure will affect Frankfurt in summer. From July 15th to December 14th, the Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim will be renovated. Deutsche Bahn plans to modernize all systems on the approximately 70 kilometer route. The railway is currently performing 16 large construction sites in long -distance transport, whereby the construction work has already started in four cases.
