Journalism for democracy: 45 media houses set a sign!

Freedom of the press: More than 45 media houses and journalism organizations ...
On April 30, 2025, over 45 media houses and journalism organizations set a clear sign of democracy on the occasion of the international day of press freedom. This initiative, which was created by the magazine journalist, emphasizes the indispensable role of journalism for a functioning society.
The editor -in -chief of journalist, Matthias Daniel, emphasizes the essential connection between independent reporting and democratic integrity. "Independent journalism stands against authoritarian politics, against influence and captivation," he explains and emphasizes that only a freelance journalism can counteract narratives. This attitude is of the greatest importance today, since democracy and journalism depend on each other.
The campaign is entitled "Free media. Strong democracy. Our responsibility" and is supported by advertisements both in the magazine itself and in various partner publications. Interested parties can participate in the initiative via the website www.journalist.de/ democracy.
The institutions involved include the Zeit Verlagsgruppe, Stern, ARD, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Handelsblatt and reporters without borders. This wide -ranging support shows the collective will of the industry to anchor the importance of journalism in public and to draw attention to the risks that can arise from the erosion of press freedom.
With a print edition of 27,000 copies, the journalist is the most important publication for journalism in Germany. This campaign not only focuses on the current challenges for the media landscape, but also calls for an active responsibility for everyone who works for the values of democracy.
