Kai-Uwe Böhm is the winner of the ADAC Camper in 2024 in NRW

Kai-Uwe Böhm from Wanne-Eickel was chosen as the "ADAC Camper of 2024" in North Rhine-Westphalia. The competition took place in the ADAC driving safety center in Grevenbroich, where Böhm took first place ahead of Dirk Reinshagen from Remscheid and Gerd Borghs from Straelen in various special stages. Böhm expressed his joy over victory, but emphasized the Olympic idea that participation counts everything and not just victory. Interestingly, Böhm was not registered for the competition by himself, but by his partner Adelheid Lischewski.

The success in Grevenbroich secured Böhm to participate in the nationwide final of the competition at the Camping Messe Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf in September 2024. The main prize for the "ADAC Camper of 2024" is a 14-day camping trip through Canada including flight worth over 8000 euros. In addition, Böhm received vouchers for a camping holiday in NRW, camping products and a camping dinner as a preliminary round victory bonus.

The event placed particular emphasis on traffic safety, in which the participants had to demonstrate their skills after intensive driving training. In addition to driving backwards on a circular path and making a target braking, the motorhomes should assess the width of their vehicle and maneuver through a tight stangent goal. A grill challenge and the assessment of the profile depth of tires rounded off the competition tasks.

The participants Dirk Reinshagen and Gerd Borghs, who took second and third place, were also enthusiastic about the event and emphasized the fun they had, as well as the opportunity to exchange ideas with other campers. All participants received trophies, certificates, prices and valuable driving safety tips for future motorhome trips. The placements of the NRW preliminary round for the "ADAC Camper of 2024" comprised a total of eleven participants, with Kai-Uwe Böhm finished first with 39 points.
