Termination for plagiaries: Court decides against Professor Guérot

The Labor Court Bonn has declared the termination of professor Ulrike Guérot by the University of Bonn as lawful. The 60-year-old scientist had sued the termination, but was rejected by the court. The university had justified the termination with allegations of plagiarism, which the court found as the "duty breach of the plaintiff by deception". In particular, Guérot's book "Why Europe has to become a republic" was regarded as a central proof of scientific misconduct and plagiarism.
The dismissal was based on the fact that Guérot had applied, among other things, with the book in question about a professorship in Bonn and this was regarded as an attempt to deceive. Although Guérot is considered an experienced scientist, the severity of the incident was considered sufficient to justify termination without prior warning.
Ulrike Guérot, author of the bestseller "Who is silent, is right", is also criticized for her statements during the Corona pandemic and the Ukraine War. In particular, after the beginning of the Russian attack, she called for immediate peace negotiations, which was considered inappropriate by critics.
