"Step up for change" - use for fair work
On April 26, an impressive stage show took place in the LVR State Museum of Bonn, which was presented by young people from Germany and Zambia. Through various artistic forms of expression, including dance, music, theater and poetry, the participants with the aim of promoting decent working conditions globally. This event was the highlight of a special exchange project that illustrated the personal and cultural connection between the young people.
Friederike Worth, which coordinates the project, emphasizes that the wishes of the young people, although from different contexts, are remarkably similar. They dream of a just future and safe jobs. These common dreams were a central part of the performances and reflect on the universal longing for a better life, regardless of the geographical differences.
A particularly moving moment came from 25-year-old radiologist Ruth Nyirenda, who appeals to the challenges of unemployment for young people. Her determination to capture her dreams despite the adversity was visible through her creative expression in dance and music. Nyirenda thus embodies the unbroken will to draw hope even in difficult times.
cultural bridges between Bonn and Lusaka
As part of the project, in October 2024 Bonn dancers traveled to Lusaka to hold creative workshops with young people in a Don Bosco facility. This intercultural cooperation led to the creation of the performances, which were now presented in Bonn. The project is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development as well as the German-African youth work, which underlines the profound political and social relevance of this initiative.
A spokesman for Salesian Don Boscos emphasizes that art creates a powerful connection between young people worldwide and gives them a voice. This event is an example of the potential that arises when young talents come together from different cultures to make a positive change.
