German State Philharmonic: Michael Gassmann succeeds Beat Fehlmann - Ludwigshafen
The German State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate has made a change at the top: Michael Gassmann was introduced as the new director and thus follows Beat Fehlmann. This decision was announced by Minister of Culture Katharina Binz in an event, just two days after the presentation of Fehlmann's last season.
Gassmann brings an extensive experience in the music scene, especially from his time as head of the artistic company at the "Heidelberger Spring". During his term from 2015 to 2021, he was instrumental in the design of innovative programs that shaped the festival.
His professional biography shows Gassmann as a variety of talent. In addition to his work in cultural management, he also enjoyed musical training, including studying organ in Cologne and London. In addition, he studied musicology, art history and Latin philology of the Middle Ages in Freiburg, which underlines his extensive education. Furthermore, he was active as an organist in various churches for many years and works as a journalist, including for the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung".
After his successful time in Heidelberg, Gassmann took over the commercial management of the international Beethovenfeste in Bonn, where he was able to gain further valuable experience. His commitment and passion for the music world should now have a positive effect on the German State Philharmonic.
The arrival of Michael Gassmann promises a fresh air for the Philharmonie in Ludwigshafen. The musical community and concert goers can hope for an innovative program design and new impulses in the coming season, which will continue and modernize the tradition of cultural institution.
