Mysterious inventor and presumed spy: The double life of Herwig F.

Bad Homburg (Hessen) - Herwig F. from Düsseldorf, at the age of 72, was caught on Monday. This is not the first time that he is the focus of the public. He was celebrated as inventor during Corona pandemic. Together with his business partner, Dr. Georg Kaupe, an orthopedic surgeon from Bonn, developed F. an almost transparent Corona mask called "Covid-Firewall" in 2020. The development was allegedly carried out within a few months.

The mask invented by Herwig F. should kill all viruses by means of UV-C light, while air flocked to inhale. The media cheered the spy as a talented inventor, which allegedly made over 300 inventions with more than 150 patents in the areas of automotive, aviation, drive technology, renewable energies and sport. There was speculation about whether the inventor's ideas were sole or whether he was already working for the Chinese secret service MSS. So far, there have only been indications of suspicious activities since 2022.

It remains unclear whether the high-tech mask could actually fulfill Herwig F.'s promises because it was never produced in series. The joint company of Herwig F. with his wife Ina (68) and Thomas R. (59) named Innovative Dragon, presents itself on their website in a solid business look. Despite their inconspicuous exterior, the three are said to have worked as spies. Thomas R. was identified as a contact person between the Chinese secret service MSS and the couple.
