New in Bonn: ID documents in the future conveniently delivered to your home in the future

Bonn | New ID cards can be delivered by post

Bonn (dpa) - From May 2, there is the opportunity for citizens to have new ID cards or passports deliver conveniently. This service, provided by Deutsche Post, proves to be a practical solution for applicants who want to do without personal collection in the municipal office. Instead, Deutsche Post provides ID documents such as personnel cards, passports, electronic residence permits and oath cards directly to the front door.

The handover takes place via the so -called “post office delivery”. In this procedure, Deutsche Post deliverers are responsible for only handing over the envelope to the right -wing recipient with the new ID document. To do this, the recipient must identify with a valid ID document before delivery. For this service, there are fees of 15 euros that are to be paid directly when applying to the responsible authority.

The introduction of this direct shipping offer was announced by the Federal Ministry of the Interior in November 2022. It aims to facilitate the application for the citizens of applying and receiving new identification documents. So far, it was necessary to go to a local office twice to apply for a new ID and to pick it up later. With the new regulation, this process should be made more efficient.

The demand for direct shipping of ID documents has been supported for a long time by the city day of North Rhine-Westphalia. The local association emphasizes that such a service would benefit both the citizens and the administration by reducing time -consuming authorities

This step is part of a more comprehensive effort to modernize the public service and make it more citizen -friendly. The possibility of document delivery by post could not only increase comfort, but also improve the safety of the identity papers during transport. In this context, it should be hoped that the service will be well received and may be expanded in future developments.
