In Bonn, it will be easier for applicants of new ID cards in the future: From May 2, 2024, it will be possible to conveniently receive personnel cards, passports, electronic residence permits and oath cards. With this initiative, Deutsche Post wants to offer citizens an additional service and optimize the processes in the municipal offices.

The shipping is via the method of “Postident delivery”. The new ID document is presented in a envelope directly at the front door. Before the handover, the Deutsche Post deliverer demands legitimation through a valid ID document. In order to take advantage of this service, a fee of 15 euros is incurred, which is already paid in the application in the authority.

This regulation was announced by the Federal Ministry of the Interior in November 2022 and follows the wish of many citizens who usually have to go to their responsible office twice for the preservation of a new documentary document.
