New support area of the Bundeswehr: Logistics in Bonn ready for use

The Bundeswehr logistics command: / a key ability of the new support area

The newly established support area of the Bundeswehr will be officially put into service on April 29, 2025 after full operational capacity was reached on April 1. This step is in response to the urgent requirements regarding the distribution of decisive skills within the Bundeswehr, whereby logistics stand out as a key ability.

The Logistics Command of the Bundeswehr, based in Erfurt, plays a central role in the implementation of the logistical strategies. With around 16,000 posts, it comprises around a third of the staff in the new support area and secures all basic logistics services both within Germany and internationally.

The tasks of the logistics command are the support of all emergency services with necessary materials such as spare parts, ammunition, fuel, marketing goods and field mail. The mobile logistics troops that act as a network in the area of application are responsible for the implementation of repair work and logistics control. These troops ensure that goods are efficiently converted to land, air and lake and stored in logistical facilities.

In the area of application, the mobile logistics troops are also able to repair their own harmful material. They are supported by the special pioneering regiment 164, which can be set up field camps and field bearing and repairing pipeline systems. In addition, this regiment has the ability to drill well and prepare water, which is essential for the emergency services in remote areas.

The entire logistical organization is subject to the responsibility of Major General Jochen Deuter, who acts as General Bundeswehr logistics. Under his leadership, a variety of units and facilities, including the Logistics Center of the Bundeswehr and the Logistics School, are located. These structures ensure the effective coordination and the further development of the Bundeswehr's logistical system, which is essential for the successful implementation of operations.
