With the start of school on Monday, everyday life returns in North Rhine-Westphalia. Before that, however, the region's large airports experience a considerable rush of travelers. Many families make their way home at the end of the Easter holidays, which leads to a high passenger volume.

At Cologne/Bonn Airport, the maximum of 34,000 expected passengers will be predicted for the last day of vacation, which falls on a Sunday. Overall, the airport expects around 97,000 travelers for the entire weekend from Friday to Sunday. These numbers illustrate the great interest in travel during the holidays.

The Düsseldorf Airport follows with an even higher forecast, where more than 209,000 passengers are expected in the same three days. These figures show a significant increase compared to the Easter holidays in 2024. This year the two main airports North Rhine-Westphalia's passage growth of around 20 percent, which manifests themselves in a total of 1.1 million travelers in Düsseldorf and a good 500,000 in Cologne.

The likelihood of traffic jams increases on the federal state's highways, especially at the end of the weekend. However, the ADAC North Rhine has not predicted disaster scenarios, which is a considerable relief for travelers. On the other hand, no top values are expected in rail traffic, although a good utilization of the trains for the last holiday weekend is expected. The main travel days are already behind us, which could stabilize the traffic situation.

In summary, it can be stated that the end of the Easter holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia is characterized by strong mobility. However, travelers should prepare for possible delays, especially on the paths to the airports and highways.
