Easter marches begin - several 10,000 participants are expected
This year around 100 different promotions are planned as part of the Easter marches, with the organizers expecting a large number of participants. The measures include demonstrations, rallies and bike tours, which mainly deal with peace and disarmament. In particular, the demands for initiatives to terminate the Ukraine War and the conflicts in the Gaza area are in the foreground.
The first Easter marches begin on Maundy Thursday, while the main campaign days are the Holy Saturday and Easter Monday. The organizers assume that a total of several 10,000 people will participate in the difference from different cities and regions. The events are supported by a wide range of peace initiatives and groups from the Christian, trade union and left -wing scene.
Special attention is paid to the demonstrations at the Büchel Air Force base, where US atom weapons are stored according to unconfirmed reports. Other central places where actions take place include Frankfurt, Cologne, Munich, Berlin and Leipzig. These symbolic places underline the seriousness of the topic and the demands of the demonstrators for more peace and less military confrontation.Kristian Golla, representative of the peace cooperative, emphasizes the need to find ways to end current wars and at the same time to develop a new peace regulations for Europe and the world. The Easter marches have a long tradition in Germany, which goes back to the 1960s. Originally initiated by Christian-Pacific groups, they were particularly important in the 1980s when hundreds of thousands protested against NATO policy and nuclear upgrade. The Network Peace Cooperative, which was launched in 1989, has its roots in the former peace movement and continues to organize relevant actions on peace promotion.
