Playoff hope is disappearing: Baskets lose against Alba Berlin
Playoff hope is disappearing: Baskets lose against Alba Berlin
Next setback of Baskets again over the top of the opening quarter
The Telekom Baskets Bonn experienced a bitter defeat against Alba Berlin on Wednesday evening. In an important game for the playoff places, the Bonners had to give up 88: 102. This defeat not only subdued hopes for a playoff participation, but also lost the direct comparison against the capitals, which makes the starting position considerably more difficult before the remaining games.
One of the main reasons for the defeat was the weak start into the game. As in the past game against Frankfurt, the Baskets fell behind again in the first quarter, this time with 18:32. The team was unable to shorten the distance or even take the lead. This early mortgage determined the course of the entire game and also did not let better phases of performance come into their own.
Head coach Marko Stankovic was disappointed with the defensive start of his team after the game and explained that simple mistakes Alba gave confidence. Such mistakes may not be made in a duel against a Euroleague team if you want to remain competitive.
Individually both teams offered strong performances, but Alba was superior in many areas. While Darius McGhee shone for Bonn with his 30 points and seven threes, Matt Thomas, with his 34 points and nine threesome, set an even stronger personal record. In addition, the litter rate of the Berliner was significantly better from the field with 59% than that of the Baskets that could only reach 38%.
With this defeat, the baskets are under pressure, especially before the upcoming home game against Heidelberg. The team must now show that it is able to achieve a positive record in the remaining five games in order to keep the chance of playing. The coming weeks will be decisive for the baskets, and the expectations of the fans will be high, especially according to the recent challenges.
