Travel boom for Easter: Airports Düsseldorf and Cologne's exceed expectations

Now everyone comes back: largest NRW airports-more passengers in the Easter holidays

During this year's Easter holidays, the largest airports North Rhine-Westphalia, especially Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn, have recorded a significant increase in passenger numbers. The Düsseldorf Airport expects around 1.1 million travelers, which means an increase of around 200,000 passengers compared to the previous year. This corresponds to an impressive plus of 22 percent and reflects the recovery of travel.

The Cologne/Bonn Airport has also reported positive developments. A passenger number of over 500,000 is expected here, which represents an increase of around 20 percent in the previous year. The last day of the holiday, Sunday, is seen as a top day, on which 34,000 passengers alone are forecast. The entire last holiday weekend is estimated to be around 97,000 travelers, which underlines the high demand.

In order to be well prepared for the rush of holidaymakers, both airports have taken appropriate measures. In Düsseldorf, for example, the check-in was 85 percent of passengers within ten minutes, and even with security controls, this value was better with 97 percent. Similarly, Cologne Airport is experiencing a strong increase in travel, which is also noticeable in the busy terminals.

expectations for the travel wave from the Netherlands

In addition to the domestic travelers, Düsseldorf will also welcome guests from the Netherlands. In view of the upcoming Königstag and the Dutch May vacation, another travel wave is expected. In addition to the increase in passengers, every fifth booking in Düsseldorf came from Dutch guests last year, which shows the increasing popularity of the airport in the neighboring country.

On the highways in North Rhine-Westphalia, the ADAC shows an increased risk of traffic jams, especially on Friday when vacationers and commuters travel at the same time. Deutsche Bahn also reports on a good workload of the trains for the last holiday weekend after the main travel times with Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday are now behind us.
