Software group: René Obermann should become SAP supervisory board head
The former telecom boss René Obermann is in prospect of taking over the chair of the supervisory board of the software company SAP. This was announced in a letter from the current chairman of the supervisory board Pekka Ala-Pietilä to the shareholders for the upcoming general meeting. Obermann, who currently acts as the main overseer at Airbus, is considered suitable for the desired position due to his extensive experience and leadership skills.
The takeover of the chairmanship of the chairmanship of the supervisory board by Obermann will be a while. It is planned that Obermann will be nominated in the Supervisory Board in 2026 and can take over the chair in 2027. In the transition period, the Supervisory Board will ask the shareholders in the coming year to extend the term of the current chairman to ensure a smooth transition.
The search for a new chairman of the supervisory board has been busy for a long time. The SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner, who held office for more than 20 years, resigned last year. It was initially planned that Punit Renjen, the former managing director of Deloitte, took his place. However, there was a surprising rescheduling on the part of SAP, which are due to different views on the future role of the chairman. In this situation, Pekka Ala-Pietilä was used as an interim solution that was previously a member of the SAP supervisory board.
The decision for Obermann as the future chairman of the supervisory board could also bring significant strategic changes for SAP. As an experienced manager, he not only brings extensive knowledge of corporate management, but could also bring in fresh perspectives for the further development of the company.
In the coming years, SAP will be crucial to establish a stable and future -oriented leadership in the Supervisory Board in order to successfully master the challenges in the rapidly changing software market. Obermann's planned appointment is considered by many as a step in the right direction to lead the company into a promising future.
