Königsverein: Association modernized inn on the Oelberg

The inn on Oelberg has a long history that goes back to 1873 when the beautification association acquired the building for the Siebengebirge (VVS). Over the years, the facility has undergone numerous conversions and modernizations to establish itself as a prestige object at the highest point of the Siebengebirge, with a height of 461 meters. According to Gerhard Müller, the VVS vice chairman, this is a continuous process that is still underway.

The latest investments of around 170,000 euros have led to striking changes, in particular to redesign the terrace, which is now equipped with a modern, natural pavement. This replaces the former washing concrete slabs that came from the 1960s and conveys a more contemporary appearance overall. A new stainless steel railing also contributes to modern appearance. VVS boss Hans Peter Lindlar emphasizes that it is important to keep the new facilities in good condition, both for the tenants of the inn, Thomas and Aleksandra Prinz, as well as for the numerous visitors.

modernization measures and challenges

In the course of the renovation work, not only the terrace, but also the facade of the building was examined. While the south side has already been optimized, the north and west side has now also received a new fine plaster, which is provided with a special color that has a lotus effect. This technique helps to keep the facade clean. However, Gerhard Müller also reported difficulties that occurred during the work, underneath leaks above the kitchen and supported wall parts that had to be installed.

A future focus of the modernization measures could be the installation of photovoltaic systems. While the VVS has already received a permit for the roof use of the Oelberg restaurant, a corresponding application for the Forsthaus am Lohrberg had been rejected for monument protection. Against the background of the progressive discussions about climate protection measures, the association is considering submitting a new application to expand the use of solar energy.

fire protection and security

In terms of the safety of the inn, an expert order for the development of a fire protection concept has been granted. After talking to the district fire chief and the city of Königswinter, it seems likely that extensive measures are necessary to improve fire protection, including the discussion about the placement of water -like facilities below the plateau. Lindlar underlines that the protection of the residents and firefighters has a top priority.

In summary, it can be said that the modernization work of the inn on the Oelberg should not only improve the building structure, but also the experience for visitors and employees. With ongoing efforts to maintain and modernize, the VVS strives to promote the inn as a center for culture and relaxation in the region.
