Resilience and peace: Inspector General Schneiderhan on the subject of war graves

On April 29, Wolfgang Schneiderhan, former general inspector of the Bundeswehr, gave a lecture on "The Volksbund Deutsche Wargräberfürsorge and his educational work-a contribution to social resilience" in the SRH Fernhochschule in Riedlingen. As President of the Volksbund since 2017, he emphasized the importance of memory of the victims of past wars and the role of the association as a symbol of peace and reconciliation in a world full of conflicts and uncertainties.

The war grave care sees education as a key aspect to promote peace and responsibility. Education plays a crucial role in times of global challenges such as climate change and political instability. The Volksbund Deutsche Wargräberfürsorge therefore offers an important platform to convey these values and prepare future generations for a world of peace and sustainable development.

The final question and answer session in which Schneiderhan dealt with questions about the current security policy was particularly interesting. As a native of Riedlinger and former general inspector of the Bundeswehr, he already took part in various stations in Germany and abroad. His longstanding military career ended with the position of the general inspector from 2002 to 2009.

The Volksbund Deutsche Wargräberfürsorge, also known as the German War Graves Fund e.V., was founded in 1919 and is a non -profit association with the aim of maintaining and supervising war graves abroad. In addition to support in search of burials, the association is committed to the further development of war graves as learning locations in history. Further information is available on the Volksbund website.
