08.05.: Boot collides with Boje

Bonn. On the evening of May 8, around 8 p.m., the fire brigade and the emergency services in Bonn were alerted to a water rescue operation. The assignment was initiated after a boat with four rowers near Konrad Adenauer bridge collided with a buoy. This unfortunate collision led to all four rudders going overboard and drove down the Rhine together with the boat.

Fortunately, there were other rowing boats nearby, which immediately hurried to help. The helpful rowers managed to get the people walking overboard safely to the left bank of the Rhine. The rapid rescue workers from the fire brigade and emergency services supported the uninjured rowers in recovering the boat, so that there were no further injuries.

The affected boat continued its journey and was accompanied by water -side rescue agents. It headed for the nearby base on the right side of the Rhine. A total of several units were involved in the operation, including the fire guards 3, 2 and 1 as well as the German Life Rescue Society (DLRG) and the water protection police, all of which worked smoothly.

Such incidents are not unusual and illustrate the importance of security on waters. Collisions like this can happen at any time, which is why it is important that rowers and boat operators pay attention to themselves and their surroundings. Similar situations may be avoided by preventive measures and regular security exercise.
