Rhein ends with fireworks, but without drones
This year's Rhine in Flames Festival offered a high -contrast final: While the fireworks were carried out as planned, visitors had to do without the excited drone show. The reason for this cancellation was a disorder in the security area due to an unauthorized drone, which endangered the entire staging. In addition, there was another incident on the Rhine, in which a cargo ship disrupted the planned ship convoy and the onward journey of a participating ship was hindered.
The event initially started promising with pleasant weather, which pulled numerous visitors to the Rheinauen on Friday. The Saturday, which was to be the highlight of the festival, was abruptly interrupted by a storm. At 3:30 p.m., all those present were asked by loudspeaker to arrange the site and without panic. As a result, the German Weather Service increased the warning level to level 3. Many visitors searched for protection under covered rides or took the way home while some tried to wait for the weather.
When the heavy rain subsided, the first festival goers returned to the site in the evening. Despite the mixed vacation experience, some optimism gave themselves and decided to make the best of the situation. The site was officially reopened from 6:30 p.m. and the music appearances took place as planned. In front of the stages, many spectators patiently waited for the appearances of their favorite bands. This positive turn showed that the festival goers can hold together even in difficult moments.
However, the showmen experienced a financial setback from the storm. The time of the weather overcapping fell exactly into the phase, in which most of the sales are generally generated. Many showmen were forced to think about dismantling their stands, while some even had to deal with water accumulation that significantly made access to their attractions significantly difficult. These challenges are highlighting the uncertainties with which organizers and providers are faced with, especially at outdoor events.
Overall, the Rhine left mixed feelings in flames. As exciting as the planned attractions were, the unforeseen adversity reminded everyone involved of the unpredictability of the weather. Nevertheless, there is a spirit of optimism among those involved who hope for future expenditure that such disorders can be avoided.
