The Cologne-based transport companies (KVB) have announced extensive work on Aachener Straße between the military ring and the light rail grip in Junkersdorf. These measures include the renewal of the rail infrastructure as well as the installation of new masts for the stable railway overhead line. The total costs for the construction work amount to around 1.6 million euros.

Restrictions in light rail traffic

In the course of the work, Stadtbahn-Linie 1 from Tuesday, April 22nd to Sunday, April 27th, is temporarily stopped between the Aachener Straße/Gürtel and Rhein-Energie Stadium stops. Stadtbahnen from the city center will drive to the Aachener Strasse/belt stop and return to Bensberg from there. The city railways, which come from willow, will only run to the Rhein-Energie Stadium stop.

In order to minimize the impairments for passengers, the KVB replaces replacement buses. From the Melaten stop, line 101 are provided as spare systems. In addition, the regular bus stops of lines 172 and 173 on Aachener Strasse are used. These measures are necessary to transport passengers during the construction period. Bus lines 141 and 143 are also affected and must be diverted into the period mentioned, which leads to longer travel times.

Road traffic is also affected in this area. The two-lane road towards the city center is closed between the junctions of old military ring and Wendelinstrasse, which leads to a relocation of car traffic to the opposite lane. This means that the incoming and bending traffic between Aachener Straße and the adjacent roads is limited, which also complicated the situation for drivers.

There are also restrictions for pedestrians and cyclists. The cycle and sidewalk in the direction of the city center cannot be used continuously in the affected section of the route, and the overweights via Aachener Straße are only available to a limited extent. The KVB points out that the work is usually carried out during the day, but night shifts are not completely excluded. Passers -by and residents are asked to adjust to the changed traffic situations and, if necessary, to choose alternative routes.
