On May 7, 2025, Germany was hit by violent storms, which resulted in numerous injured and significant damage to property. The dangerous weather conditions, which were accompanied by lightning strikes and heavy rain, led to a variety of fire brigade operations and other emergency services. Particular attention was paid to regions that were badly affected, whereby the cleanup was at high pressure.

In several federal states, there were numerous injuries due to fallen trees and other storms. In Trier, for example, a tree top fell on two cars during a storm, with a driver being locked in the vehicle and having to be freed by rescue workers. In Central Hesse, too, two young men were slightly injured when a tree fell on their vehicle. The police also registered a large number of accidents and damage to property in Northern Hesse, where fallen trees significantly impaired traffic.

The dangerous lightning strikes in some cases led to major fires. An example of this is a fire that was lit by a lightning strike in Bad Wildbad and spread to a residential building and stables. Over 120 emergency services were on site to extinguish the flames. Similar incidents occurred in Pforzheim and other cities, where luckily there were no injuries.

The strong storms also led to massive traffic disruptions. In Fulda, the entrance of a hotel was blocked by a fallen tree, which required the evacuation of around 60 guests. The emergency services were used in several regions to remove fallen branches and fallen trees, while Deutsche Bahn was also affected due to route closures.

These violent storms are a drastic change after a period of summer temperatures. The German Weather Service had warned the population of dangers such as flooding and hail. The regional warnings were withdrawn in the evening, but it was still warned against local thunderstorm. The events illustrate the need to prepare for extreme weather conditions and take appropriate measures.
