Siegburger steals drinking money and change

A 32-year-old man from Siegburg has caused a stir in the past few months by breaking down into several restaurants and a wellness park to steal drinking money and change. Instead of taking advantage of public support, the accused decided to make a criminal lifestyle. The acts took place mostly during the night and testify to a systematic approach.

The accused admitted to the court that he was pushed into crime due to addiction. He left DNA traces during the burglaries, which significantly made the investigation easier. His professional background as a security employee and stage technician is not insignificant, as this may explain his knowledge of security measures. At the time of his acts he was already a criminal record and was under probation.

The burglaries began on the night of January 5, when he broke into a gym and stole valuables worth over 1700 euros there. This incident was only the beginning of a series of attacks, which also included burglaries to an Italian restaurant and a China restaurant, in which he steel several thousand euros. When it was arrested, burglary tools and a folding knife were also secured.

On February 5, the accused was taken into custody and put on trial. Despite a judgment of two years without probation, the court decided that he initially did not have to return to prison to start therapy. The presiding judge emphasized that treatment of the root of the problem was more sensible. However, this depends on his ability to regulate his finances and not to be criminal.

As a condition of his preliminary freedom, the accused must report regularly to the police and repay the stolen amounts. However, his financial situation is a challenge because he only achieves a low income every month. It also turned out that he earns just 520 euros net per month, a significant part of which is used for rent. The developments of the next few months will be crucial to see if it is able to successfully follow this new life.
