Solidarity in Schweinheim: Birch as a sign against war in Ukraine
In good time to May 1st, a maypole was set up in front of the Russian consulate general in Schweinheim. The four-meter-high tree was decorated with blue-yellow colored ribbons and should serve as a symbol of solidarity with Ukraine, which was attacked by the war. Günther Taube, co -organizer of regular vigils in front of the Consulate General, emphasized the importance of this sign.
The birch was given its place in Waldstrasse compared to the Russian representation, where a similar solidarity campaign had previously taken place. Previous vigils, however, had led to incidents in which photos, protest signs, flowers and other objects disappeared or destroyed. These incidents were also reported to the police and the organizers announced that they would continue to show the flag against the war in Ukraine.
Despite the challenges and attempts at intimidation by unknown, affirmed Taube's decision to continue to show presence on Thursdays and Fridays between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. before the Consulate General. The small but constant signs of solidarity should make it clear that the support for Ukraine will not decrease.
