socially and sustainable: universities found an impact start-up cluster

In a time when companies are increasingly taking on social and ecological responsibility, the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, the University of Bonn and the Alanus University of Art and Society initiate the Impact Start-Up Cluster "Sonar-socially sustainable". This project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection with almost 1 million euros, aims to support common good -oriented start -ups. The official starting shot will be given on May 22, 2025 at the Bonn digital hub, where pick-up-off event for interested parties takes place.

"The goal of Sonar is to create an ecosystem for social innovations," explains Prof. Dr. Martin Sieber. The cluster supports founders with various programs such as innovation impulses and peer-to-peer learning to maximize their social and ecological effect. In view of the global challenges of our time, Sandra Speer emphasizes the importance of such companies for social change and ecological transformation in the region. The network should help to actively promote these changes.

social and sustainable business

The start-up cluster promotes a founding culture based on social and sustainable approaches. It offers practical formats for start-up and established companies, especially in the areas of Green Economy, sustainable management and circular economy. The universities involved bring extensive expertise in research and teaching that flows into the support of promoted start-ups. This makes the project a contribution to achieving important climate goals and promotes a sustainable regional economy.

games and accessibility

Another focus of the Impact cluster is on the subjects of “Games” and “Accessibility”. These areas are considered dynamic innovation fields with promising potential. Prof. Dr. Adrian Hermann emphasizes that the close partnership with the Bonn Lab for Analog Games and imaginative Play (Lagip) promotes new business ideas in game development and social aspects of company start -ups. Accessibility projects support underrepresented groups, including people with disabilities and people from noticeable classes to strengthen their social participation.

interdisciplinary collaboration

The Impact cluster is implemented interdisciplinary by the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, the University of Bonn and Alanus University. This cooperation enables the exchange of diverse expertise and experiences. The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences coordinates the cluster and brings extensive experience in start-up advice, while the University of Bonn offers specific advice on the focus issues "Games" and "Accessibility". Thanks to the focus on sustainable management, the Alanus University contributes to strengthening the network and promotes social transformation that integrates sustainability into education and practice.
