Start chances program for schools: NRW supports over 900 schools with € 2.3 billion

The NRW state government supports six schools in Bonn with the starting chance program, which supports schools in particularly challenging situations. The country receives around 2.3 billion euros from the federal government and gives additional state funds to the same extent to promote more than 900 schools nationwide. The Ministry of School selected the first 400 schools in North Rhine-Westphalia, which can take part in the program from the school year 2024/25. Schools such as the Elsa-Brandström primary school, community primary school Gotenschule, Medinghoven, Robert-Koch School, August Macke School and Johannes-Rau School in Bonn will benefit from this program. It aims to support pupils who urgently need this help by strengthening their reading, writing, arithmetic and social and emotional skills. The aim of the program is to ensure good educational opportunities regardless of social background. For the school year 2025/26, a further 520 schools from North Rhine -Westphalia are included in the program, with pupils with a migration background and the risk of poverty of children and young people.
