Stuttgart architects win European houses -Award

Stuttgart architects recently won the renowned Europe-wide price “Häuser” award with a semi-detached house. This competition was under the motto "Houses with a future" and distinguished projects from different European countries, including the straw bale house of Florian Kaiser and Guobin Shen, which received a special prize. The two architects with the name of M took first place with their semi-detached house and received an award for "Exemplary Building 2023" from the Baden-Württemberg Chamber

The special thing about the double house of the architects of M is that it was created in the middle of the city on a site designated as a garage square. It is not only a prime example of intelligent densification in the urban context, but also designed from the start to take into account the growth of the residents. The house is modularly planned, so it enables a variety of uses, whether for a family, an office or a shared apartment. The jury praised the planning and implementation of the innovative residential project.

Another award -winning project comes from the Stuttgart office of Kaiser Shen, who revitalized the village center with their ecological house in Pfaffenhofen near Heilbronn. The house insulated with straw bales received a special prize for the jury for its outstanding energy balance and flexibility in use. The jury emphasized that the straw bale house is a contemporary example of building in the country.

Furthermore, a house was built on a garage by the Liebel Architects in Aalen and received third place at the reader's award. This project has already been honored with a Hugo Häring award 2023 of the Federation of German Architects (BDA). The wood-concrete hybrid construction creates attractive living space in a surface-friendly manner and thus shows the innovative approach of the architects.

The "Häuser" award was organized in collaboration with various partners such as the Bund of German Architects and Architects BDA and the Association of Private Builders e.V. VPB. The jury consisted of well -known experts in the industry and awarded a total of 19,500 euros. In addition to the competition, an accompanying book entitled "Houses with a future" by the architect and author Bettina Hintze was published, which introduces the award -winning projects in detail.
