Work in Cologne: Social and ecological transformation in focus
On May 1, 2024, the DGB Cologne calls for demonstration and rally on the Cologne Heumarkt. The focus of this international day of work is on the topics of social and ecological transformation. The difficult economic situation with personnel loss and relocations of many companies as well as the major local political challenges in Cologne, such as living space, rents, educational institutions and mobility, are also on the agenda.
Important discussion topics of the day will also be the arguments related to the European elections and right -wing extremism. The DGB youth will focus on missing future investments and the policy of debt brake. Witich Roßmann, Chairman of the DGB Cologne, and Judith Gövert, Managing Director of the DGB Region Cologne-Bonn, will illuminate the local and sociopolitical focus of the Cologne DGB.
The DGB Cologne is pleased to have won Michael Vassiliadis, the chairman of the IGBCE, as a speaker for the rally. With his extensive experiences in industrial and tariff-political work, Vassiliadis will deal with the union and real wages and the protection of democracy from right-wing extremism in the face of inflation and real wages.
on the hayarkt there will also be a special offer for children to make the 1st May as a day of work and solidarity an eventful and informative day for all visitors.
