Bonn | Hype drink: Whoever shouldn't drink raw milk
Bonn (dpa/tmn) - The Federal Center for Nutrition (BZFE) urgently warns of the current trend that glorifies raw milk on social media. Despite conscientious agricultural practices and careful handling at home, there is a risk that there are germs harmful to health in raw milk. Therefore, it is advisable to use ultra -high or pasteurized milk to avoid increased risk of infection.
For consumers who acquire raw milk at a milk filling station, the BZfe recommends heating the milk to at least 72 degrees for a period of 20 to 30 seconds. A safer option is the preferred milk that is subject to special controls and is available in packaged form. Nevertheless, it is pointed out that preferred milk also carries risks and is therefore unsuitable for certain groups of people.
Infants, toddlers, pregnant women, older people and people with a weakened immune system are particularly at risk. These groups should strictly avoid the consumption of raw milk to prevent health risks.alleged advantages of raw milk not documented
The frequently conjured advantages of raw milk, such as improved hair, lower disease susceptibility and better digestion, there is no scientific evidence on the part of the BZFE. In addition, the nutrient content of raw milk and heated milk are comparable. The two decisive nutrients calcium and protein remain in their structure when heated, which further questions the claim of superiority of raw milk.
