Königswinter: Accident on the A3
On Friday morning, a serious rear -end collision occurred on the A3 in the direction of Cologne between Oberpleis and Königswinter. This incident is already the third serious accident at a construction site that was not yet active at the time of the incident. Due to delays and congestion caused by the construction site, the accident occurred.
A van with a tarpaulin was not broken in time at the end of the traffic jam and collided with the vehicle of a 59-year-old BMW driver. The 58-year-old driver of the van suffered serious injuries during this collision. The fire brigade had to free him from his vehicle with hydraulic device before being transported to the hospital in Siegburg. The BMW driver reported neck pain, but luckily remained unharmed.
The alarmed motorway police blocked the road at 7.41 a.m., which led to a considerable backlog. A lane could not be released until around 9:20 a.m. Emergency services and the police were on site to cope with the situation and regulate traffic.
As the head of the Königswinter fire brigade noted, the journey to the scene of the accident was extremely challenging, especially by the areas of the construction site that have already been blocked. This led to a narrowed road and made the quick intervention more complicated.
accidents on the A3, especially in construction site areas, are not unusual, and this incident illustrates the dangers that can assume inadequate traffic adjustments. Road users are urgently asked to pay particular attention to construction sites and possible traffic jams in order to ensure security for themselves and others.
