Bad Godesberg (AS). The Godesberger Motor Club (GMC) confirmed the implementation of the Caracciola Cup for this year, a classic car trip that traditionally takes place on the first Saturday in May. This year the event was shaped by intensive disputes with the Bonn city administration, in particular on the basis of approval for the previous destination, the Mehlemer Rosenpark on the banks of the Rhine.

Approval for Rosenpark refused

In the past three decades, the exit traditionally ended with an impressive vehicle exhibition in the Rosenpark. Despite the support of the district council of Bad Godesberg, GMC chairman Hans-Christoph Schäfer received no approval for the use of the park this year, and Mayor Katja Dörner did not intervene in the decision. The reason for the rejection lies in the reconciliation of the rose park and the adjacent dragon stone park to landscape protection areas in 2022, which, according to Schäfer, took place without the knowledge of local politics.

Despite these difficulties, the GMC held on the tradition. After intensive efforts and positive feedback from the population and the neighboring municipalities, especially from Remagen, Villa Kursana was elected as the new destination. Director Marco Krzykowsky offered support for the event at short notice and enabled the finish in the Park of Villa.

Schäfer expressed significant criticism of the city administration and described the decision as irresponsible and against the interests of the Mehlemen population. He referred to earlier provisions of the former property owner, who ensured that the park had to remain open to the public. He also recalled the earlier urban interventions that took place regardless of nature.
