Sankt Augustin: Rathausallee closed after accident

On Thursday afternoon, an accident occurred on the Rathausallee in Sankt Augustin, which resulted in considerable traffic disruptions. Around 4:45 p.m., a driver had to brake between Siegburger Straße and the one in the Spichelsfeld. A 33-year-old man from Sankt Augustin reacted in time and was able to stop with his SUV, whereas a 26-year-old driver, also from the city, did not react quickly enough.

The young woman bumped into her small car with great force against the 33-year-old's vehicle. Due to the impact, the front of your car was badly damaged, so that the vehicle had to be towed. Fortunately, the 26-year-old was not injured, while the 33-year-old suffered minor injuries and had to be treated outpatient. However, he was able to take care of his vehicle, which had only suffered slight damage.

Support from the fire brigade

The Sankt Augustin volunteer fire brigade was called to support. This had previously been active in another use, a triggered fire alarm system. The fire brigade helped to secure the site, scatter leakage resources and ensured a thorough cleaning of the road.

The Rathausallee had to be blocked for about an hour, which led to long traffic jams on the detour routes. The Südstraße in particular was affected because many vehicles that wanted to drive through Menden to Autobahn 59 during the main traffic time were now forced to avoid the center and Bonner Straße. This situation led to an increased volume of traffic and delays, which increased the frustration of the commuters.
